COLBY AS FOODIE: DANDELION WINE???

I spent the other day picking and shucking dandelions with some friends. We're going to make dandelion wine. I have no idea how it will turn out but I'll let everyone know in six months. This picture is of me shucking-recognize the shoes?

Here's the recipe we're following:

Ingredients:

2 qts dandelion flowers
3 lbs granulated sugar
4 oranges
1 gallon water
yeast and nutrient
This is the traditional "Midday Dandelion Wine" of old, named because the flowers must be picked at midday when they are fully open. Pick the flowers and bring into the kitchen. Set one gallon of water to boil. While it heats up to a boil, remove as much of the green material from the flower heads as possible (the original recipe calls for two quarts of petals only, but this will work as long as you end up with two quarts of prepared flowers). Pour the boiling water over the flowers, cover with cloth, and leave to steep for two days. Do not exceed two days. Pour the mixture back into a pot and bring to a boil. Add the peelings from the four oranges (again, no white pith) and boil for ten minutes. Strain through a muslin cloth or bag onto a crock or plastic pail containing the sugar, stirring to dissolve. When cool, add the juice of the oranges, the yeast and yeast nutrient. Pour into secondary fermentation vessel, fit fermentation trap, and allow to ferment completely. Rack and bottle when wine clears and again when no more lees form for 60 days. Allow it to age six months in the bottle before tasting, but a year will improve it vastly. This wine has less body than the first recipe produces, but every bit as much flavor (some say more!).

COLBY KELLER PAPER DOLL: WRESTLER COSTUMES

Colby's favorite illustrator has struck again. You'll recall that J.Bone was one of the winners of the Porn for Art Contest with his amazing Colby Keller Paper Doll. Well, now you can add a wrestling singlet and lucha libre masks (I love the I SEE PENIS version) to your paper clothes collection for your Colby Keller Paper Doll. He even included a "DIY" mask for you to design as you please.
Happy Friday! Huge wrestle hugs to J.Bone!!!

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE: ADIDAS JERSEY SWAP

So, a fellow blogger and I have been talking about a project for the possibly-one-day-existing Colby Keller Production company about the idea of a Choose Your Own Adventure Porn, one where the view decides what happens. He thinks he's found the nascent versions of such an adventure, this Adidas Jersey ad where hot athletes swap jersey's in one of many combinations that the viewer selects. Check out the ad and tell us what you think. The future of porn?

Post-Eyjafjallajokull Air Traffic

This video of air traffic over Europe after Eyjafjallajokull is pretty amazing. Just sayin...

BOYS WITH BEARDS: HARVEY WALKER

Some of you may remember my fun scene with Real Guys Exposed a couple months ago. Well, Real Guys Exposed will soon be featuring the porn premiere of sexy Harvey Walker. He's already got a well established Twitter feed and he just launched his website (which has a NERDS section, fuck yeah!) and sent some hot pictures to post for Boys with Beards here on the Big Shoe Diaries.

Here's what Harvey had to say about the curatorial process behind his beard:

"The beard was my ode to Facial Hair February. I started growing it a day or two before February and didn't touch it until March 1. Since the official rules allow for neck trimming, I neck-trimmed. With trimmers, mind you. No razors."

Enjoy the rest of his sexy photos too (he looks just as good sans beard and sans clothing)! The Big Shoe Diaries gives two size 15s up!!!

THE KELLER FAMILY: RUE KELLER

Keller is common surname in a lot of languages and is the German word for cellar. My friend, Laurent in Paris took some great photos of Rue Keller in Paris, named for two Swiss-German brothers who were artillery experts in France in the 1600s. I've never been on Rue Keller, but I think it's fitting that earlier Kellers were famous for being good at shooting their guns.

MIDWEST EXPRESS: NEAR TRICKS ON THE TRACKS

A reader of the blog @TheBeast_NYC mentioned that he was traveling by train from NYC to Chicago. I love trains and I suggested that he take some photos and write something about his trip. Enjoy and thanks to The BEAST!

____________________________

So I usually fly when traveling but this was last minute so I decided I'd just ride the train midwest. What's 15hrs on the train gonna hurt?
I tweeted about my trip and our fave big shoe hottie colby suggested I snap some countryside pics. So that definitely made my trip more fun. I got some really great shots and I hope you guys like them.
I of course got horny so I figured I'd cruise the aisles just to see if there was anyone hot to talk to. I made eyes at a couple guys then this older Mexican guy came and sat next to me, I then realized he was a Monet, you know good-looking far away but clearly not my type up close so I just said goodnight and shut my eyes. He surely got the idea and moved along.
I somehow ended up talking to a sweatshirt wearing hottie in a cart ahead of mine. He was really cool, I gave him my card then outta nowhere he starts talking about the sex he had with a girl in the bathroom, how he went down on her and etc. I was like cool I'm looking to hook up on the train too (wink wink).
He then asks am I a giver or receiver? When I get ready to answer the train conductor calls his station and he's like that's me I better go. Turns out he's 17 and still in H.S , wants to hang out when were both back in the city. Perhaps there will be a part II to this story?! Well that's it for me, I just ate & I'm beyond exhausted. Night guys, sweet wet dreams ;-)

FANCY FOOTBALL FOOTWORK

I don't know a lot about showtunes. As a kid, Fiddler on the Roof was one of my favorite movies to watch, but until recently I couldn't have told you much more about the different musicals that have been made into movies and vice versa. However, there is one video that I've seen a few times at some gay bars that always gives me a chub. It's "the Aggie Song" from the movie version of the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. The guys are hot. The dancing is hot. The sexuality and styling are kind of amazing. So many muscular butts, legs spread wide and tight jeans.... Fuck! It's basically porn. Enjoy if you haven't already.

MORNING WOOD: BARD COCK

Ah morning wood...what to do with it? Check out this hot new Tumblr called Bard Cock. Lots and lots of hard cocks. Oh what FUCKYEAHCOLBYKELLER would do with BardCock.

VOTE FOR THE TEA PARTY CANDIDATE...IN THE MnM POLLS!

Has anyone else noticed the double entendre of the Green Lady M&M's statement, "It's all about working the polls [poles], fellas. It's all about working the polls [polls]!" I giggle every time she says it...and I get offended, but I found the MnM I'm voting for at the thrift store in Chicago. The Tea Party candidate!!!

COLBY'S SELLING SOME S$%T ON EBAY

I forgot to mention that I'm downsizing a bit in ColbyKellerLand. In particular, I'm offloading some awesome articles of clothing and some Visionaire objects that would make excellent gifts. Check out my ebay profile.

ARTISTS I LIKE: "FRAMING OF DESIRE" & LAURENT CHAMPOUSSIN

So, earlier this week, I posted a fairly superficial post about a French photographer I've developed a bit of a art/man-crush on this week with three of his mineral portraits. However, I've been doing some deeper looking at his other works and wanted to share some more of his images and a brief little "framing of desire" essay that the work inspired out of me. I apologize in advance for the use of the words exigent and heuristic but I couldn't express myself without them...feel free to skip the essay and look at the pretty pictures.

One of the fun things about sexuality is our limitless ability to marshall our desire around the exigent confines (sometimes albeit blurred) of any number of creative possibilities: A woman. A man. A big cock. Big feet. Hairy nuckles. Giant muppets. You name it, someone has probably fetishized it. Then again, there are cultural trends which supersede idiosyncratic anomaly. It is in this respect that we can refer to the ever-present "frame".

Porn is a perfect example of a widely distributed commodity that works to frame our collective desire (not everyone's desire granted, but enough to the give the term meaning). The "frame", for obvious reasons, brings any discourse back to art, to painting in particular, and to photography and film by extension. We can talk about "mirrors", transparency, ruptures in the picture plane, breaks in the fourth wall-- all of which refer us back to the heuristic nature of the frame. I don't think Laurent Champoussin intends to direct our gaze specifically toward sex with the following series of photographs, merely the sensual. They do however allow us to contemplate the beauty of the frame . . . and everything the "frame" might mean for us.

THE REAL HOUSWIVES OF WARREN JEFFS: THE BIG GAY SKETCH SHOW

So we all know about Warren Jeffs, one of the polygmists off of which my favorite show, Big Love is based. Well, I was watching a certain show on Logo last night and started cackling hysterically during a commercial break as the Big Gay Sketch Show promoted a funny parody skit called "The Real Housewives of Warren Jeffs." I haven't seen the B.G.S.S. yet, but I've laughed pretty hard at the commercials I've seen for it. I also can't find images of these "real housewives" online either, so I'm just posting a the B.G.S.S. photo.

Here's a quote from part of the skit...

Announcer: Then, in the season finale, a lavish night of knitting and staring is interrupted when 12-year-old Anna goes head-to-head with her own father. Will Warren get cold feet before marrying his own daughter?
Warren Jeffs: Probably not.
Announcer: So get ready for the new season of The Real Housewives of Warren Jeffs.
Anna: Wednesdays nights on Bravo are about to give a whole new meaning to Father of the Bride.

Golly jee, plural marriage has so much material...

Has anyone watched Big Gay Sketch Show? Is it funny?

I SEE PENIS: ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO

I couldn't resist photos with these two sculptures from the amazing Asian collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. The one of Shiva with multiple "heads" just really got me giggling...I'm such a child.

WASHINGTON DC: CHERRY BLOSSOMS...THANKS, JAPAN!

So, if you've ever visited Washington, D.C. in the springtime, you've likely encountered the huge Cherry Blossom Festival that occurs every spring towards the end of March and the beginning of April. I've gone every year I've lived on the East Coast and it's always a huge mess of people but the beauty of all those blossoms is (usually) worth it. Thanks, Japan!!! And thanks Stephen Merritt for referencing the cherry blossoms in one of my favorite Magnetic Fields song, covered here by boatondryland.

I went again this year, but rather than post MORE PHOTOS OF CHERRY BLOSSOMS, I decided to take pics of Colby in front of D.C. Government Buildings...if you really wanna see cherry blossoms, just google image search it. I did post some jonquil pics...and c'mon..the office of thrift supervision...awesome.

IT'S MY PARTY AND I'LL CRY IF I WANT TO...

So, the only person attending the Colby Keller Tweet Up in Chicago was....Colby Keller. It was actually a fun night thanks to "Daddy" the bartender at Buck's and the sympathy shots he was pouring. The good news is I am much better at Erotic Photo Hunt than I was at the start of the night AND I still have more porn for new giveaways and contests on the blog.

COLBY AS FOODIE: SEA SALT CARAMELS

So some of you may know that I love good food and specifically, world cuisine. One of my favorite things to do in new cities where I travel is to seek out some of the best new restaurants and food experiences. I'm not huge on the fancy upscale American thing(budget of course is an issue), but I love finding the best ethnic and/or hole-in-the-wall joints in a city.

I also LOVE to cook. My most recent project has been to try and re-create these amazing sea salt caramels I had when I was last in Los Angeles. I finally found the best recipe, thanks of course to Martha Stewart. Check out the fun pictures of my most recent candy-making session and try it yourself with the recipe below.

If anyone wants to place an order for Colby Caramels, let me know! I actually tweaked the recipe below a bit...

I add about 1tsp to 1 1/2tsp maldon smoked sea salt into the mixture and cook until 260, not 250 so the caramel is firmer.
Ingredients
Makes 81 caramels
1 cup goat milk butter
2 cups pure wildflower honey
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup light-brown sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon Maldon sea salt, for sprinkling

Directions
Line bottom and sides of a 9-inch square pan with parchment paper; set aside.
Melt butter in a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat. Add honey, cream, and sugar; stir to combine. Cook, stirring frequently, until mixture comes to a boil.
Continue boiling, stirring frequently, until mixture reaches 250 degrees on a candy thermometer, 45 to 60 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla; pour into prepared pan. Let cool for 1 hour; sprinkle with sea salt. Let cool completely, overnight.
Turn caramels out onto a cutting board; remove parchment paper. Using a sharp knife, cut caramels into 1-inch squares; wrap each in wax paper. Caramels will keep in an airtight container, refrigerated, for up to 1 month. Caramels will soften at room temperature or stay firm if kept chilled.

ARTISTS I LIKE: LAURENT CHAMPOUSSIN

I was looking at this great website of a Paris-based photographer yesterday and really got into his images from a sequence called LOVESTONED. Here are the couple of the images. Laurent and I communicated via email and he's hoping to do a mineral portrait of Colby Keller at some point in the future....anyone wanna buy me a ticket to Charles De Gaulle??? ;)

THE KELLER FAMILY: NEW ARCHIE CHARACTER

So, if you're a fan of comics you may already know that a new openly gay character has arrived on the scene of Archie. What you may not know is that the character is my nephew, Kevin Keller. Me and Kev are tight. I was the first person he came out too and he always said it really inspired him to know his uncle was a moderately-known porn actor. Keep an eye on this one--his career is just beginning.

I SEE PENIS: THRIFT STORE

This one was a bit easy, but c'mon it's funny. I found this item at the thrift store a couple weeks ago. Gives added meaning to the word for the object: cork screw. Pop my top!

COLBY KELLER TWEET UP: CHICAGO

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. The trip really crept up on me so sorry for the inconsistency in posts this week (also I know I owe everyone a final "colby keller art contest" wrap up-it's coming next week, I promise!).

If you're in Chicago, join me tonight at the first ever Colby Keller "Tweet Up" at Bucks at 3439 N. Halsted from 6pm-8pm. I'll have some DominicFord.com porn to give away to the first five people who come say hi to me. This will be very laid-back and informal and remember I'm pretty shy, so please don't expect charisma or a "celebrity personality"...you just get shy Colby. FYI: I like Jack and Coke...

Also, I owe a huge apology to Alfredo. I'm a total space cadet and this trip came up so quickly...and then I called you by the wrong name. I have a funny photo I took that I'll post next week that will hopefully suffice as an apology...thanks for saying hi!

I had a great first day in Chi-town and thanks for everyone's recommendations. I spent the morning walking through Millenium Park and the Bean is so fucking cool....I was mesmerized for quite some time. Then, I popped into the Art Institute for a while and went over the MCA for their Tuesday evening afterhours program. I love that collection!!! I also went to a public program, but had to sneak out early to catch the rest of the museum before dinner. For dinner, I went to this well-known chef's "take out" restaurant Xoco (awesome). Pics and more details to come.... See you Chicagoans tonight!

PERFORMANCE ART SCANDAL?

So, at the Marina Abramovic performance art retrospective there's been some "scandalous" and "offensive" behavior on the part of the museum-goers (so much so that one Museum member had his membership revoked as he was forever kicked off the premises) ...at least from the perspective of the performance artists and the MoMA.
I struggled while reading the article though. Isn't the piece "Imponderablia," where guests are asked to pass through a tight space between two naked bodies, supposed to evoke a strong response from the visitor?
Of course unsolicited groping is inappropriate, but outside of an "art" context, so is nakedness...the very purpose, I presume, of Abramovic's piece....not too mention her video installation in the next room where she and myriad other women shove their vaginas skyward over and over in ritualistic frenzy. She places herself and her audience in uncomfortable, difficult and inappropriate bodily situations, but the museum and performance artist's (and even NYTimes') response to this didn't sit well with me. The performance artist AND the NYTimes felt it pertinent to also mention that the, let's-just-go-ahead-and-call-him-a-perpetrator, was an older man, making sure everyone reading the article knew that he was a dirty old man. Would he have been kicked out if he'd been younger and hotter? Or if he'd groped the performance artist in an "artful" way that was a more obvious (and in my opinion, less interesting) reference to the awkwardness of the piece. I can't help but wonder that if he'd been younger, hotter and said the offensively stated line "You feel good, man" in a nasally, intellectual and "my body speaks a language" performance art accent, then people would have applauded and felt moved.
Thoughts?

WHAT SHOULD COLBY DO IN CHICAGO?

I'm heading to Chicago today and am hosting a Colby Keller "Tweet-Up" on Wednesday - be sure to check out my Twitter feed @colbykeller for details on when and where. But, before I head off, any recommendations from Colby fans and the must-see things in Chicago (it's my first time as an adult). Obviously, I have several art museums on my list, but what else???

BEST AND WORST 3RD PLACE TROPHY EVER!!

I love the Huffingtonpost. Seriously, one major Colby Keller media goal is to somehow get coverage in the Huffington Post. I really don't care which section so I'm thus willing to do just about anything for it. I guess I'll keep working on my comedy. In the meantime, check out a great photo they posted today.
