FLICK U: MY BEAUTIFUL LAUNDRETTE

The consequences of a four hour time difference led me to this quaint little laundry-mat in San Francisco last week.  I found myself waking up at 6:30 every morning with nothing to do but walk from the Tenderloin to Fisherman's Warf.  This laundry-mat reminds me of the 1985 British comedy "My Beautiful Laundrette", an interracial gay romp through Margaret Thatcher's England.

  1. One of the first gay movies I saw as a kid. It definitely left an impression.

  2. Love this movie. Who doesn't love Daniel Day Lewis? And that is one weird trailer.

  3. Amazing, and completely underrated film! Burnt Money [Argentinian film, I believe] is also highly recommended to anyone that can respect this film.

  4. I remember finding this movie at a Blockbuster store in Oak Lawn - the gay mecca of Dallas, Texas, where I lived during the first years after coming out. It was really formative for me as a gay man, along with Another Country (with a very young Rupert Everett) and Maurice (with an equally young Hugh Grant).
