REDCOATS FLOAT MY BOAT
Homemade bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon and grenadiers? A recent picnic trip to Ft. McHenry brought me face to face with the enemy. As the recent Tea Party inspired debt crisis makes clear, Washington DC has been burned to the ground once. We can do it again.
One of King George the 3rds hotties marching his way south to Washington. If only I could get him to keep his bearskin hat and lose everything else. . .
Ft. McHenry was the site of the brief but successful defense of Baltimore during the War of 1812 (made famous by Francis Scott Key and the Star Spangled Banner). The British won a decisive battle at nearby Bladensburg, Maryland a month before, allowing them to enter Washington and set fire to the Treasury Building and the White House (though a rare and freakish storm that witnessed several tornadoes touch down did a majority of the damage). I have no clue why these redcoat reinactors are marching into Fort McHenry (historically they were docked in the harbor) but it sure made for great mid-brunch entertainment.
