STATIONS OF THE STRIPPER POLE: PAPAGAYO'S LUZ DEL MUNDO

At the corner of Eastex Freeway and Bostic Street in Houston, you'll find the enormous basilica-esque church El Luz Del Mundo, complete with big gold tittie dome and strip club mirrored windows. With east Texas evangelical aspirations for Saint Peter's in Rome and conveniently located next to Papagayo's exclusive strip club, this is the part of town to come to when you need to worship at the base of a pole or two. Note to Columbian drug lords who own strip clubs: hire a different architect to build the church you're laundering your money through to avoid suspicion from the DEA. The mirrored windows are a dead giveaway.

  1. There is a Luz Mundo Church just like that in Montery Park, California. As a matter of fact, I thought it was that church, just off the Pomona freeway. Ron Athey credits it as impressing him as a gay boy. I grew up near Montery Park.
