PEGGING FOR PLEASURE: PROSTRATE BEFORE THE PROSTATE

POP QUIZ: Which packs more pleasure for its punch: the penis or the prostate?

While I didn't quite get an answer either way, I did learn much more than I thought I ever would at a lecture I attended earlier this week at Sugar, a local sex shop in Baltimore's Hampden neighborhood.  The topic: the male prostate.  You may ask, like I did, if women also have a prostate?  They do.  According to the experts, Charlie Glickman and Aislinn Emirzian, who coauthored a book on the topic The Ultimate Guide to Prostate Pleasure and Health, the female prostate likely corresponds to the near-mythical g-spot, though evidence is hard to pin point.

I can't repeat the entire hour-and-a-half lecture word-for-word, but I'll touch on a few brief highlights everyone should know.

First, Location:

The prostate is a spherical ball with two lobes, roughly the size of a walnut.  It lives inside your body at the base of your penis, underneath your bladder, pressing and subtly protruding against the wall of your rectum.  It gets larger as you age and gets larger with sexual arousal.  If you gently coax a finger or two in your bum (or the bum of your partner), you'll find the prostate about 3 1/2 to 4 inches in.  If you gently bend your finger in a "come hither" gesture with your finger-tip facing toward your partner's belly button, you should hit the prostate right at the point the intestinal wall changes direction and begins to flatten out.  The prostate is firmer than the surrounding tissue (like the tip of your nose compared to a supple cheek, the texture and consistency of a ripe plum).

What the prostate does:

The prostate, along with the seminal vesicles above it, produce nearly all of the fluid in semen.  Only a small portion originates in the testicles.  According to Charlie and Aislinn, prostate massage and other therapeutic techniques like pegging (penetrating a man with a strap-on dildo) or fucking-- done properly and with practice-- can allow men to experience multiple orgasms, even without the accompaniment of  ejaculation.  Proper massage can also build the amount of fluid in your semen and create more powerful orgasms.

How to do it:

Once you find the prostate, slowly massage and stroke it.  Don't feel limited in your options.  Drag your finger across it top to bottom, side to side like a windshield wiper or in small circles.  Oddly enough, nearly everyone prefers a specific direction-- clockwise or counter-clockwise-- so be sure to ask your partner what works.  You can also softly tap the prostate with your finger.  Charlie and Aislinn's research also reveals that most men prefer a slow beat of around 120 beats per minute, think "Duke of Earl":

A good prostate massage makes most beginners think they have to pee.  No one knows for sure why.  It may be location-- the prostate does sit directly below the bladder-- or from the simple fact that a good massage will successfully fill surrounding tissue with ejaculatory fluid.  You've probably experienced the same sensation, like I have, during a good hard fuck.  Practice (and slow, deep breathing) will help you discern pleasure from pee.

To learn more, I highly suggest consulting Charlie and Aislinn's informative website, The Prostate Pleasure Guide.

Aislinn demonstrates proper pegging technique.  Even straight men should enjoy the pleasure only a good prostate massage can deliver.  :-)

  1. Pegging? That', hilarious. Straight folks are so weird. From now on when my BF shoves his little(and I'm not complaining here) 5-1/2 inches in my toucas, I'm going to affirm my masculinity by referring to it as "tickling".

I'll leave the 11 inch Chad Hunt dildos for the "straight" peggers.

  3. Good writing - men, whether gay or straight need to be better aware of the orgasmic capabilities that their bodies posses. Many gay men appreciate the joy that the prostate can bring. Too few straight men do. I guess that they are mostly frightened that their manly ass might be violated. (Huge chuckles!)
