Sometime during World War Two, Soviet troops discovered a treasure trove of erotica at the Tsarskoye Selo, the winter palace of the Tzars 15 miles south of Leningrad (present-day St. Petersburg). Some scholars think Catherine the Great commissioned the work herself. The soldiers cataloged the work meticulously, nearly all of which perished in a fire during the war. Most of the photographs also disappeared, including one allegedly describing a wall completely decorated with wooden phalluses of various shapes and sizes-- A tragic loss for all of humanity if ever there were one.
