THE DEVIL WEARS A POSING POUCH

Happy Halloween from Big Shoe Diaries and the ghost of Bob Mizer!  A survey of Mizer's work opens November 2nd at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.

Visit the Bob Mizer Foundation to see more examples of his work online.

WARLOCK WETDREAMS

In keeping with today's theme, I now switch from "cannibalized" to "cannibal" in this brief music video.  A special thank you to musician Natti Vogel who generously asked me to don the warlock's cowl and eat him.

On a completely unrelated note, I've been having a lot of wet dreams lately.  Weird.  Maybe it has something to do with my new dream hot tub:

I SEE PENIS: GATHERING HOAX

I can't count how many people have sent me an image of the I SEE PENIS above-- what purports to be an aerial view of a church in Dixon, Illinois, the boyhood home of Ronald Reagan.

Dixon?

Ronald Reagan?

Really?

Huffington Post swears the church even deploys the slogan "Rising up".  You're not alone if you suspect something fishy.  Who really designs such a small building with that many weird curved walls?  I was skeptical enough to check Google Earth myself, and yes, the building does seem to exist in Dixon, the boyhood home of our 40th president (an actor with ego-testicals if there ever was one).  I took these screen captures myself. . . that is, unless someone hacked Google?  I couldn't find a website for Gathering Light, the church in question, but I did find a slew of funny reviews from Google Plus:

From "Jack Kennoff":

I highly recommend the religious teachings of John Thomas and Hugh G. Reckshin. Very enlightening. I laughed, I cried, I came.

From "Richard Holder":

Nice place, but why did they put the seminary in the rectory?

I also decided to investigate with a simple street view and got this strange anamoly: a brick wall and a bridge to nowhere:

ENTER THE EMA-SCULATOR

Welcome to Kill Joy's Kastle, a "Lesbian Feminist Haunted House" crowd-sourced by a coven of queers, courtesy of Toronto-based artist Allyson Mitchell.  After sampling "Sasquatch Clitoris" (a steal at only $50), be sure to tip toe around the pile of severed penises, past the queer studies library, on your way to the ultimate privilege-popping kill-joy, "The Emasculator".  Even your peen will scream with this Halloween treat.

I SEE PENIS: RAYMOND PETTIBON

Artist Raymond Pettibon's "Reader" was a seminal classic in my high school repertoire.  His casually romantic surfer sketches confidently paired with fly-by literary declarations made me think I needed to move to California (which I tried briefly and failed at miserably).  If only I had a cock to match his imagination.  "To Wit" at David Zwirner:

"The white sheet-- in the old literary sense-- is a true ghost's word."

BONERS FOR BIRTHDAY BOOKS: THROWAWAY BOY

Granted, I might throw "me" away given half the chance, but then again I wake up every morning staring at the same tired mug dripping in eye boogers and toothpaste.  Thankfully frequent BSD contributor Jef thinks differently.  Jef sent me a beautiful copy of "Henry Darger: Throwaway Boy" by Jim Elledge for my birthday.  If you don't know Darger's sexually ambiguous, somewhat controversial work, check out the trailer for "In the Realm of the Unreal", a documentary about Darger's life, or view examples of his drawings from the American Folk Art Museum HERE.

Oddly enough, the book arrived on Jef's doorstep with the dust jacket upside-down and backwards, unexpectedly signed by the author-- a surreal indication at best, especially given the other present Jef included in my birthday package: his response to "Justice".  So far I've kept most responses to my latest art project close to the vest.  That said, I couldn't resist sharing Jef's psycho-sexual genderfuck masterpiece.  In case you can't see the drawing clearly enough, their vaginas have zippers.  OUCH.

COLBY AS FOODIE: BROCCOLI CUPCAKE

Taro on the top, broccoli and cheese on the bottom.  And yes, there were indeed real broccoli bits inside-- all-in-all not half bad (the half without the broccoli and cheese).  From a Filipino bakery near the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens.

MASHED PENISTOES

Casper the Friendly Ghost's castration mashed potatoes?

If a holiday happens somewhere in the future between Halloween and Thanksgiving, I might serve something like this to celebrate.  From the series "Saint Sébastien" by artist Marc Alberghina.

Marc's work appears in the exhibition "Body and Soul: New International Ceramics" at the Museum of Art and Design in NYC.  Here are a few of my favorites from the show:

Still from Corps au Travail (Body of Work), 2010, by Valérie Delarue

Chris Antemann, "Lust and Gluttony", 2008

Elsa Sahal, "Pieds Noirs (Black Feet)", 2010
