I wanted to give a quick update on the #COLBYDOESAMERICA adventure as it's been a very busy couple of months and I still feel very much in transition.  Thanks for everyone's well wishes!

MODEL APPLICATIONS (Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas)

The next leg of the journey begins in Phoenix in October at the home of a very special friend.  I'll wind my way north into Utah and Idaho and back south through Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico, arriving in Texas in time for the holidays.  If you are interested in participating in #ColbyDoesAmerica and you live in one of these states (or will be there in October/November), please get in touch with me at bigshoediaries at gmail dot com.  I'm looking for potential models to work with me, couples/fuckbuds/orgy groups who want to be filmed, and video artists/art directors/editors who want to be a part of each state's video production team.  If you're camera shy about your face, but still want to show off, we can make that happen.  Shoot me an email with ideas for collaboration, location, availability and maybe some photos if you're hoping to model.

The tweets are out and the photo selfie perks should be finished by the end of this week.  T-shirts and postcards are next.  Thanks for everyone's patience on these.  I was pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed by the support so it's taking longer to get through everything than I thought.

I've been receiving a lot of emails asking me where the videos are located as though we had done them before the fundraising campaign got started.  While I'm impressed with the assumption of my industriousness, I have a quick answer: we've just begun to make them, so please be patient.  One already exists for the state of Maryland and is currently set to free viewing for all.  Filming has happened in California, the District of Columbia and Maine and we are in the editing process.  West Virginia and Florida are in the works for later in September and the above mentioned states for October/November.

Thanks to the hard work of the folks at Dirty Looks NYC, I was able to attend a screening of Jacques Scandelari's New York City Inferno last night in Manhattan. I'd seen some of Scandelari's other work, but this was the first I'd seen that he directed as his alter-ego, Marvin Merkins (really, merkins???).  If you have a chance to check out any of his work, you won't be disappointed. Oy, the mustaches . . .

From the Dirty Looks Website:

"In 1977, Parisian filmmaker Jacques Scandelari moved to NYC. Under the equally evocative pseudonym, Marvin Merkins, he produced a doc-style porno, New York City Inferno, which follows Jerome, a Frenchman who visits our fair city to find his lover; Paul has fallen into the teeming S&M leather scene. The world that Jerome encounters consumes him in all too many ways. New York City Inferno is a remarkable document of pre-AIDS NYC gay life, as noteworthy for its experimental aesthetics as it is for the authorized soundtrack provided by The Village People.

Jacques Scandelari was a French filmmaker, screenwriter and producer. His second feature film, the cult-classic Beyond Love and Evil, was a loose adaptation of the Marquis de Sade’s Philosophy of the Bedroom – featuring a present-day setting and a cult of libertines set loose on an isolated mansion. He moved to New York in 1977 and made New York City Inferno, under the name Marvin Merkins, the exploitation film Flashing Lights (aka New York After Midnight; Monique), which starred Breathless actress, Florence Giorgetti, and Victims of Vice."

Many thanks to DeeDee for this gem!!!

It's been a hectic few weeks (and I know I'm behind on fulfilling some of the August deadline perks, but please be patient, they're coming).  Some family deaths and illnesses and unexpected trips . . . but most everyone has been super understanding, so thank you.  The #ColbyDoesAmerica Team will be getting perks fulfilled in the coming weeks and thought this great fan art drawing from Kenny H might give something for you to enjoy while you wait.  Thanks again to everyone who contribute and who keeps contributing by offering help/volunteering to work on state by state projects!

Many thanks to Big Shoe reader, Joe Rice for this hilarious postcard from 1905, depicting a windy day near the Flatiron building in NYC.  I've never quite thought of it in that context . . . well, I'll be blowed indeed!

Who sees the resemblance?

I SEE PENIS: Somali Fish

Big Shoe thanks to Ana for finding this Somali gem, a blind cave fish.  It's circadian rhythm lasts almost two days . . . I wonder if their little fish culture encourages circadian rhythm envy???
